Astapiana’s roots reach back to Roman times<\/strong>. Later, in 1604 it became a Camaldolese monastery, then a royal site, refuge of Joachim Murat in 1815. Since 1822 it has belonged to the Giusso family<\/strong>, who still preserve its history today. Within its walls have stayed royal families, including the Bourbons, and distinguished Nobel Prize winners.
